Today was Fantastic. We got up early and caught the 0830hr Barge from River Heads to Wanggoolba Creek on Fraser Island. The drive from the west coast of the island to the Eastern Beach is beautiful, a sandy track winding through subtropical rainforest with large gum trees.
We went to Lake McKenzie, an inland freshwater lake; Jeff and the boys went for a swim and snorkel there. We then drove to the Lake Wabby lookout before hitting the seventy-five mile beach highway.
We drove up to the Maheno wreck (photo) - it was much more deteriorated than I remember from 1991. We continued up to the colored sands of The Pinnacles and the Red Canyon. On the way back we stopped at Eli Creek and the boys had a ball swimming/floating down the fast current. We also saw dingoes on the beach eating shellfish (pipis).
