Kya Travels
So on absolutely no sleep, we made our way to the train station at 5am, and went into maccas there for some breakfast and some wifi until the first train. When it was time, we used our last trip on our metro ticket and went down and jumped on the train. About half an hour later we jumped off, and went to find our terminal, and realised we had to get on a shuttle bus just to get to the terminal. We jumped on the bus, which got ridiculously full, you couldn't move at all, and drove for almost 20 minutes, just to get to the next terminal!! By this time I was beginning to stress a little about the time, so as soon as the bus got in, we jumped off, found a machine to check in and printed our boarding passes. We went through security, which was one of the simplest ones we've been through, we didn't even have to take anything out of our bags! Bonus! So we got through very quickly, worked out which gate to go to and made our way there just as boarding started. We got to the front of the line, then were told we weren't allowed to bring the guitar on board!!! Not again!! After waiting there, and Darren telling them he wasn't going to pay to bring it on board, they made a few calls and eventually told us we could take it on. "Just this once!" Lucky! We got on, found our seats, and I reckon I was asleep before we even took off! When I woke up, we were descending into Prague, Czech Republic! We got off the plane, withdrew some money (they still use the Czech koruna here), and went to buy a bus ticket. We went outside and got on a bus to the city. We were pretty lucky to actually get a seat, because by the time we got to our stop (the final one), the bus was jam packed! We got out and looked around for the tram which would take us to our hostel. Then realised the trams weren't running.... We went to the info centre in the metro to ask the guy there who was having his lunch, but he wasn't very willing to help, and didn't have much English, so we left and went back onto the street and wandered around for a bit trying to work it out. We thought maybe we'd just catch a taxi, as it was probably cheap, but couldn't flag any down for a while, so I decided I'd go back down to the metro and see if I could get us closer to the hostel on the metro, seeing as we had a public transport ticket anyway. We jumped on a train and I managed to get us what I thought was close-ish to the hostel. Darren grabbed a hotdog from a food stall and we walked down the street for a while, maybe 15 minutes, to get to the hostel. We buzzed to get in, and a lady came down, saying "Check in at 2! Check in at 2!". She let us drop off our bags though, and we wandered back down the street to a vegetarian restaurant we had passed on the way down called Veganskŷ Svet to get some lunch. They had a buffet set up, but we decided to order off the menu, Darren got a curry fried rice and I got these mushroom and soy dumpling kind of things in a sweet tomatoey sauce. They were pretty delicious! By the time we finished up there, it was close to 2pm, so we slowly wandered back to the hostel. By that time I was so tired that even the concrete on the side of the street looked comfortable!! We buzzed in again, and got let in, went up and checked in, found our room and fell into bed. When we eventually woke up that night, we got up and had a bit of a chat with our room mate, Joe, and a couple from one of the other dorms, Hilary and Stu. We hung out with them for a bit, then went to find some dinner. We walked up the street looking at menus, and after doing a few blocks headed back to the very first place we went to, called Olympia. They had a very pub-ish menu, but with traditional Czech recipes, so Darren got one of the traditional meals, and I got a veggie pie. The food there was so delicious, but the star of the show was definitely the garlic potato pancakes that came as a side with Darren's pork. It was sooooo yummy! It could possibly go on to be my favourite Czech food! After dinner and a beer there, we had a look at some cool looking statues up the road, then headed back to the hostel, where we hung out with Hilary and Stu for a while, then ended up going back to bed!
