So we left Napier today for a long journey to Mount Maunganui, we left at about 8 this morning and didnt get here until about 4 this afternoon. I hav to say that I cannot seem to get on a bus these days without falling asleep, its really gettin ridiculous now!! We stopped off at a few interesting places today. There was a really beautiful waterfall in some mountain range that we could take photos of. We also stopped at another waterfall that was only there because of an earthquake! Apparently the people woke up one morning and there was a giant crack in the rock and the water from Lake Taupo was gushing out! It makes an incredible noise and looks amazing! We also stopped off at Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, where u can walk round and see all the geothermal features. It was a really amazing place to see, like nothing else really. Only problem was it stinks, most people say it smells like rotten eggs but for some reason it reminded me of boiling a ham lol!!
I also lost my travel companion, Kennet at Rotarua, but its fine I've met some new people in this hostel so am doing ok. In fact i'd hav to say that i'm doing pretty well with just talking to randoms now, but then again u all know wot am like talking to randoms lol!
So as we didnt get here til late we just decided to go for a walk and seeing how the place we r at has a mount (not entirely sure what this is in relation to anythin back home!) me and 3 other girls decided to climb it. We did loose to of the girls just after we started but me and an American girl, Margie, decided to go for it even tho it was rainy and u couldnt really see much. It did take us quite a wee while to make it all the way to the top and was very steep at points but we did eventually make it! The views were pretty good when u could see past the clouds. Thats one thing i hav to say about NZ the clouds seem to sit really low over the hills, its just like u could climb up and take a handful home with u! Was really proud of us for going the whole way up despite the rubbish weather! Staying at the Pacific Coast Backpackers Lodge.
