Nobody can say we don't pack our days full of sightseeing...hahaha.
It's 11pm and we're standing at a bus stop in the middle of nowhere waiting for our bus to take us home.
We have had a full on day trying to make the most of our Copenhagen cards. It took us over an hour to find somewhere with them still in stock. We went to 3 hotels, the second called 3 hotels before finding one that had them. But it was worth the effort.
To give you a brief overview....
Christianborg palace to see the reception rooms (still used today)
Sand sculptures
Royal church for organ concert
Canal ferry tour
Zoo
Den bla planet (aquarium)
Back to hostel for dinner
Tivoli gardens - tin soldier ballet, illumination display
So, after our adventure to find cards we headed for the palace. It was awesome to see all the room, tapestries, portraits and even the library and royal China and of course the throne room. Knowing that they are all still used today was pretty cool.
We planned to go to the organ concert so to kill a little time we headed for the sand sculptures. It was amazing seeing such large sculptures. From there it was into the church for the concert. We quickly downed some lunch (bread with cheese) before heading in. That was pretty special and the organist was really good.
Next stop was the canal cruise. It started well (getting on the boat that is) but the clouds grew ominious and threatening. We'd all left our raincoats at home, except for 1 ponch so we got a little concerned. It was spitting as they pulled away. Mum and dad bought a poncho each. We saw the opera house and then went under a low bridge and when we came out the otherwise we were pelted with rain. Andrew and I attempted to cover ourselves with the poncho we'd brought with us and it was quite effective until the boat turned. Andrew made a quick dash to buy the only remaining poncho. The rain was crazy heavy...the tour guide said the worst she has seen. Our seats rather quickly filled with water and our pants dripping wet. A large chunk of the tour was missed partly because we had our heads inside the ponchos and partly because the guide had to stop for a while. We did get to see the royal yahct and the black diamond (the royal library) other things also but they were the highlights. As was going under bridges with clearences of 30cm and narrow bridges that only just fitted the ferry. It made for an interesting and adventurous journey.
Sopping wet we shivered at the bus stop and headed out to the zoo. We saw polar bears, Brown bears, seals, monkeys, lions, flamingoes, some bird (like a penguin but not) that swam under the water. They flapped their wings like they were flying and that's how they swam. We also saw a puffin. I've wanted to see one since our first trip in 2004.
Still quite wet we pressed on, determined to make the most of our 24hr cards. Andrew got a bit of a skip in his step as we headed for Den bla planet. It was pretty amazing how they had it set up. It was like a starfish shape and the aquariums lined both sides of the wall. They didn't just have fish which was cool. They also had an alligator, a snapping turtle, an anaconda, seals and birds (most notibly a toucan). One of the best parts was walking into the tunnel (similar to under water world) only part of this one went over and under you so it showed us the sharks and rays and fish swimming under us. We walked around the corner and that tank became a massive flat viewing tank that would have been 3 stories high. It was massive.
We caught the parnha feeting show which was interesting and a giant lobster attempting to scoff a rather large enemome into its mouth.
We navigated our way back home and gobbled down dinner before heading to Tivoli gardens. I knew it was a theme park but I wasn't expecting what is there. It was quite pretty all lit up. We wondered for a while then heard the ballet so were able to catch the end. Then we found where the illumination display was being held before wondering around the rides. I must say finishing the day with the fire, light, water and sound display was pretty cool.
Andrew did a Steller effort of navigating the buses, trains and underground (which has no driver and is trippy sitting in the front or back.
It is now 12:20am and I've already lost this once so I'm going to stop before it happens again. Night all xxoo
