Another early start at the ridiculous hour of 4.50 to catch our ferry to Donsak, then a bus to Krabi, before another ferry to Koh Phi Phi. We hoped it would be over quick, but we didn't realise that the first ferry stops via every bloody Thai island.
First stop: Koh Phangan. Nothing to report. As we arrived, many people disembarked and plenty got onto the ferry. Wearily through my overtired state, I noticed a large gas cylinder being wheeled on to my left. Strange. Must be an elderly who needs oxygen or something. Then, I had to do a double take to my right. They were bringing in a pregnant woman on a stretcher. They laid her down in front of 200 large luggage bags (seems safe enough) and the nurse held her iv drop bag. As the ferry began it's voyage, the nurses arm grew tired. Solution? Tie the iv to the nearest travellers rucksack. I didn't realise North Face bags came with an attached drip bag strap....
With the woman groaning in pain an drifting in and out of consciousness, this leg of the journey grew more and more awkward and unbearable. We were relieved to arrive at Koh Samui, where the patient was carried off. To my left, I noticed 2 men waiting to leave the ferry. Behind them, another two men, police officers. I then discovered that the first two men were were handcuffed. Oh lovely.
After sharing a ferry trip with an unconscious pregnant lady and 2 convicts, we were finally at Donsak and were able to grab our coach to Krabi. Getting through Shrek and an entire series of Inbetweeners (laughing out loud and quoting 'knee deep in clunge' wasn't well received with the other passengers) the 4 hour journey was soon over.
I'd heard wonderful things about Krabi, which made me regret not booking some time there. But when we arrived, my regrets soon vanished. For Krabi was a s*** hole. Granted, we were by the pier and not the beach, aaaaand it was pissing it down with rain (see miserable photo), but it still didn't paint the best picture of the place.
Grabbing some Pringles and yet more Oreos, we waited for our ferry. We played cards (I won, obviously) and soon we were on our way to Koh Phi Phi.
We arrived to more rain. I should also mention that Phi Phi doesn't have any roads. Which means no cars. Which means no taxis. In flip flops and shorts, we sprinted to shelter. Fortunately for me, and much to Wills embarrassment, I had sensibly packed a cag in a bag (aka mac in a sack, aka prat mac, aka waterproof jacket) and my top half remained dry. Who's the idiot now, Will?!
After booking a hotel for the four nights, a man threw our bags on what can only be described as a wheelbarrow, and escorted us. Along the way, another man offered us a ride in his moped side car. Erm, yes!
We cruised through Phi Phi town to the hotel, checked in, and then became familiar with our surroundings. Again, the rain didn't boast the island's apparent beauty. Later, we ate and drank, but succumbed to bed for an early night after our long day. Best restore energy for tomorrow night instead......... #carnage
