SWAD-EEE-KA!!!! I have no idea how you spell it but that's how it's pronounced. HELLO (from Thailand, female version)
Me and jess have been busy ever since we stepped foot into the busy bustling city that is Bangkok. We arrived on weds evening at which point we stepped off the plane into sweltering heat. So hot that sweat was running all over us. It was gross! We literally chucked our bags in our room, had a shower and went out. There wasn't a chance that we could get through the heat or the tiredness of flying without some much needed alcohol and a spontaneous thai massage So we had three drinks THREE - and there was no way I could have drank anymore. The thai massage was an experience as well! FML I swear the woman actually stood on my back, saying that I did feel rather limber the next day. Me and jess got our massages next to each other - it just made me want to Laugh all the time (so immature- inside joke, but jess remember our first ever yoga session together? Haha) anyways back to the booze.... The alcohol is so strong here that they probably ferment/brew it in the back room. We're staying on Khao San road which is a typically hostel area so constantly noisy and busy.
I also have to confess that it was a bit of a shock when I arrived in Bangkok. It's so dirty- cleanliness isn't what i would describe as their strong point. I also saw a huge rat and because I didn't get a rabies jab jumped every time I saw a dog or cat come towards me. Apart from that I LOVE IT! I actually think Thailands the only place where it can be dirty yet beautiful at the same time.
On Thursday jess awoke at around 9am to some heavy building work commencing next door to our hostel. Now I know we're paying something ridiculous like £5.00 a night but There is no excuse for noise like this.... On top of this we have a dodgy air-con which only goes down to 16 degrees heat GRRRR, in effect this means that since we have got to Bangkok we have hardly slept, are grumpy around 80% of the time and have little to no energy. So after I had slept in till like 12 on Thursday and jess had been awake for hours (sorry- clearly I'm a deep sleeper) we decided to have a semi-chilled day and checked out Khao San road where we brought a few items of clothing (I won't list - my mum will get mad, but don't worry I spent like £15.00 ok?) and then we had some more yummy thai food which was like £3.00 each for our meal and drinks!!! And went back to the hostel and crashed as we had to be up at 6am the following day for our Bangkok bike tour.
BIKING- where to begin. We were up at 6: yuk, yuk, yuk. We got a taxi which completely ripped us off!!!!! And did I mention it was 6. We hadn't eaten breakfast..... Oh just basically insert two really miserable girls... And on top of that a F&CK load of traffic.
Anyways we arrived there like 15 minutes late and lucky for us they hadn't started. There were six people doing the tour - me, jess and a Swedish family who were lovely.
We took to the bikes (all be it a bit wobbly- apparently were not keen cyclists! but being the super talented people we are, we picked it up pretty quickly ;) well then again there is that phrase "just like riding a bike" turns put its true!!!! Lets just say (and parents please don't worry) but Bangkok roads aren't. The safest.... We rode around alot of Bangkok and got to see a real thai way of life in the poorer areas. It's so weird to see how thai people love and learn more about their beliefs. For example we visited little china town where Chinese lanterns hang outside every home to welcome good luck and a mirror warns off bad and evil spirits so if they try to enter the home they see their reflections in the mirror and scare themselves away. ALSO many thai homes don't have kitchens and they basically live in a "box" hence why there are so many street food stalls in Thailand.
We also got a boat across to the jungle (bikes in tow) and rode through the jungle. It was boiling!!! But we were able to see a huge lizard and a crocodile!!! So just your usual Friday really. After our bike rode we took the sky train to see Wat Arun- although amazingly beautiful the steps were incredibly steep and I had to resort to coming back down them on my bum for fear of falling over!
We also dressed up in traditional thai clothing The pictures are hysterically awful so we'll get them up at some stage - just so you can all have a laugh.
Friday night we were lucky enough to go to sky bar where the hangover was filmed. So after we had actually got slightly dressed up, which felt really weird as we've been slumming it. We headed over to there. I believe it's the second tallest building in Bangkok and what makes it so special is their open air restaurant on the 64th floor. The hotel itself is beautiful (future bf's if reading this - you can take us back there for a holiday at some point if you like #justsaying) we got to see the whole of Bangkok all lit up at night which was breathtaking. Your meant to buy a dink but we were naughty and didn't - but if your ever in Bangkok this should be the first thing on your to do list.
fInally today we've been to the weekend market which was enormous. I think if you put all the markets you could think of together you still wouldn't be able to imagine the size. Even as shopaholics we retired after about 3.5 hours and not even covering a 1/4 of it. Everything's so cheap that if I ever get the chance to come back here on holiday I'm coming with an empty suitcase.
Well we've just sat down to eat and we have the gruelling issue of sorting out Cambodia and visas following. BLURGH!!!!!!
Peace and love
Kim and jess xo
