So we've Been in koh phi phi for almost a week. Partly not through choice. We arrived here on wednesday to beautiful blue skies, and beaming rays of heat. I had a bit of a nightmare boarding the boat to Phuket as left my phone in the taxi- insert hysterical crying but luckily the taxi hasn't left and we managed to get it back. All thanks to Some lovely locals.
We checked in to a private room and headed to the beach. I was reading the hunger games which meant that jess had a pretty quiet day as the book is amazing and I simply couldn't put it down. The beach is out of this world incredible. White sand, clear sea and pretty much paradise. Even though we had a sun umbrella I still managed to get incredibly burnt even with factor 50. But the best bit is I may actually be starting to tan. Goodbye fake tan!!!!
We spent the entire day at the beach, had some dinner and had a nosey round town. There are no roads on the island - so no traffic yet to be honest your likely to get hit by a bicycle. Only a few have bells on them so all the locals just say rinngggg (and make the sound of the bell) when they want to get past you.
We were meant to be going snorkelling the next day as part of our bamba experience asia travel thing we pre-booked which had turned out to be an absolute nightmare. Won't go into too many details as its long and borrrrring but if you ever decide to travel asia and read our blog. Don't (and I repeat DON'T heavily) use them! We turned up and got refused on the trip cause we didn't have a voucher!!!! The rest of the day was spent complaining and skyping bamba and were hopefully now getting a refund!
The weather has been awful since we've got here. We're in monsoon season so downpours are regular. We have in fact spent most of the week in our room! Jess also feels like she's losing her tan (she's pretty much black) so this is all rather distressful for her.
Yesterday we arranged to go snorkelling and we did. The weather seemed ok in the morning bright sunshine and hot. But boy did that change. After arriving at maya beach we got caught in a tropical storm. The boat that we were on stopped in the sea and made us swim into the national park (this was fine before the storm) but we got stuck on the island!!!! Trees were blowing, it was freezing and there were even hailstones. We had to sit in the sea to keep warm!!! The sea was actually incredibly warm. After being what I can only describe to you as stranded on this island for 50 minutes (what felt like a lifetime) we were told to climb back over the bridge and swim (in raging stormy seas) across to some kayaks which would get us on the boat.
Now I literally cannot describe to any of you how rough this sea was, how hard the waves were hitting the cliffs of the bridge we were standing on, or the sheer coldness.
We were directed to jump in the sea at a certain time, just after the waves had crashes. So jess went first and I went after we made it to the kayak and then had to kayak over rough seas to the boat jumping off the kayak and swimming onto the boat. The boat was so rocky I managed to fall over straight away. We were the second lot of people across and had to wait for the rest. The boat caused about 90% of us to be sick which was great. It was in short an experience.
Moving on.... later that day (when the storm had died down) we sea kayaked out to bamboo island and also went past monkey island but didn't stop as all the monkeys weren't out due to rain :( we didn't even get to snorkel. It was a fun day but the damn weather was rubbish.
We come home and had a shower when kim put tiger balm on her bites. (I'm covered in the bloody things) somehow i managed to get it on my underwear and the sheer pain was horrific. tiger balm is really strong menthol ointment. I'm sure you can imagine the pain! I know i will never forget it! We went and got some bamboo tattoos (as you do) and had a few buckets..... Lucky for me and jess we met a couple out who had done the trip with us. They are probably the best couple I have ever met in my life!!!! We had so much fun with them and spent the night dancing away on the beach with them.
We were meant to leave for krabi today. But due to unforeseen weather conditions and being tired we've stayed another night. We're also horrifically over budget on spending so that's kind of an issue right now. So onto krabi tomorrow and little action happening today.
Peace and love
Kim and jess.
