Kevin and Joannie on tour
After about 14 hours sleep (!) and breakfast, we headed up the valley to the National Park Laguna del Laja. Just past the entrance we saw the Lagunillas cabanas where we had intended to stay and they were indeed closed. Up a rough, stony track we rose up with great views of the valley and Rio Laja. There was a small and basic ski resort with a chair lift, but no snow. Soon after the road was indicated as only passable by 4WD. We parked up and walked down to Neuvo Puerto and the lake which was improbably turquoise. A few people were bathing and fishing.
The views of the Sierra Velluda glaciar were superb. There is a three day trak around the park but it would be unthinkable in this heat.
On the way back to the campsite there was a waterfall and people having a BBQ nearby.
Back at the campsite Kevin lit the hot tub and waited for it to warm up. The tub was a barrel with a wood burner in it. It took ages and then the owner came along and said it was an additional cost so we left it alone!
