Tuesday 11th August later am - Boston to Skegness
On the road again and more acres as far as you could see, all planted. We even saw a field planted in parsley. The trip was quite uneventful and the traffic is so well behaved, not like NZ. There are speed cameras every couple of miles, nobody hurries or nearly nobody and with the tractors doing 35mph the trip is very leisurely.
We got to Skegness and found a park in a huge car park luckily and went for a walk to have a look at the place. We also needed a loo. We were somewhat surprised at how many people were here. Lots of mobility scooters, lots of old people with Zimmer frames, lots of wheel chairs, lots of kids with scooters - hundreds upon hundreds of people. There was a carnival down at the beach from about 3 or 4 times the size of Rainbows End back home and we also saw a circus in town.
Here were stalls and eateries and dozens of fish and chip places of various standards, dozens of ice cream stalls all advertising 60 different types of ice creams, stalls for sweets, stalls for sea food, stalls of souvenirs, hell there were stalls for all sorts of things. We decided on having prawn cocktail for lunch today and ordered and sat at a table outside the stall.
Afterwards we went for a walk down to the beach and on the way watched a log flume where the people were getting soaked, we watched mini gold, bumper boats, peddle boats for up to 6 people, but down on the beach there were thousands of people, some sunbathing although there was overcast skies, kids riding donkeys, people everywhere on the very wide beach and it was sandy not pebbles as we had seen further south.
The number of people eventually got to us so it was back to the car and on the road again.
