After a late start, this morning we walked up to Gare du Nord and caught a number 38 bus across town to Denfert-Rochereau. We wanted to visit the Catacombs but when we got there, there was a queue which disappeared around the corner. We followed it looking for the end but it just went on & on. When we found out there was a three hour wait, we decided we didn't need to see it that much.
Earlier, from the bus, I had spotted the Pantheon which had its roof hidden by a white cover during restoration. We decided to walk back to the Pantheon for a closer look and then continued on foot to the Seine where we went for a cruise on the river.
After a bit of souvenir shopping, we waited about 20 minutes for a No 38 bus to go home. Unfortunately, the buses seemed to have disappeared so we went down to the nearest Metro station Cite. Down there was complete chaos with nothing moving either so we decided to walk. The problem was that it was less than an hour until France was playing in a World Cup final and Paris seemed to seize up in anticipation.
We made it home just in time to watch the game on TV. ( France lost to Germany 1-0)
