This morning we walked from our hotel down Rue la Fayette to Boulevard Haussmann where we browsed through a large department store called Galeries la Fayette. Architecturally, It featured an impressive glass cupola over a series of very decorative mezzanine floors and there was a terrace on the rooftop from which we took in some different views of Paris.
We continued past the Opera and along Avenue de l'Opera until we reached the Louvre. From there we headed for the river through Place du Carousel and the along the River Bank towards Notre Dame. Before the Pont Neuf we stopped to browse some of the paintings on sale from the street stalls and ended up selecting one for 25€.
By then it was time to find somewhere for lunch. We ended up at a fifties American diner called HD Diner on Rue de la Reynie where we enjoyed quite a good lunch. After that we went looking for the Pompidou Centre which which features some unusual 70's architecture and continued on to Place de la Bastille.
From there we walked part way along the Canal St Martin before turning up a side street towards Notre Dame. We crossed to the Ile St Louis via the Pont de Sully and walked up the central road of the Island before crossing to the Ile de la Cite. We continued across the Pont de l'Archeveche to the Latin Quarter where we chose a cheap restaurant for dinner. (Not a good choice - food was terrible)
And last of all, we caught a No 38 bus to Gare de l'Est and arrived home, once again, exhausted.
