We left Dartmoor at about 10.30am this morning and drove through some beautiful farmland to the seaside town of Portland. We stopped here for morning tea before continuing on to the start of the Great Ocean Road. Our first stop and lunch break was at the Bay of Islands. Wow, what a spectacular place! Kellie and I travelled the Great Ocean Road a few years ago but the weather was terrible. It makes such a difference viewing the awesome sights along this famous stretch of road when the sun is shining! The other difference is the amount of people viewing these sights, we couldn't believe the crowds! There were coaches, caravans, camper vans and numerous cars, it was difficult to find a place to park our 12m long set-up. Amongst all the hustle and bustle was an Echidna going about his business looking for ants, quite amazing considering how shy they normally are! We stopped off at the amazing London Bridge and The Arch, but it was too crowded at Lochard Gorge and the Apostles, so we will go back tomorrow without the caravan.
We were a bit concerned about where we were going to stay tonight as it is peak time and prices are sky high at around $76 per night for a powered site!! Free camps are limited along this section of the GOR too, but Kellie did some research and found a campground here at Princetown for $25 per night for all of us with power! Thank goodness for the Internet while on the move! We plan to stay here for a couple of nights to give us all a break from travelling. We're in a good spot overlooking the playground so Daniel and Lochie can ride their bikes and play in safety. The weather is perfect here, the sun is shining with a cool breeze and cool night for sleeping. Tomorrow we will have a look around and have a bit of a rest.
