Saturday
We were supposed to go to The Mad Decent block party in Downtown but there were no tickets left.
Instead we decided to explore the area we were staying in and walked up and down Melrose. I read about some of the vintage shops before we came and found a couple of them, Jet Rags, American Vintage and Wasteland. Didn't find anything we wanted but was fun looking.
We had lunch in a place called Fratelli's on Melrose. I got a tuna panini and iced latte and Neil got a chicken wrap both came with salads so was a good brunch to get us through the day. The tuna was a white colour for some reason and the bread was flat and crispy. We took our time and used their wifi to catch up on emails and social networks.
Carried on walking up Melrose and stopped off at The Darkroom a typically American dinner style bar. It was 15:30 by this point so I had a small pear cider. A group one one of the tables in the bar had two wafer thin girls falling all over the place their male friends/bfs giving them glasses of iced water, pretty drunk for a sat afternoon but the the American measures are strong as they always put a dash of mixer in the small glasses they serve them in.
Trying to find a grocery store was difficult as everyone seems to eat out here. Neil needed conditioner to control his locks and we were planning on making dinner at the hostel. Instead we ended up in a dark Mexican tequila and taco bar decorated with wrestling masks and paintings, called El Carmen having the best carnita taco and margarita and heading back to the hostel.
We found Trader Joes an ATP grocery store and then we went to CVS pharmacy which sells alcohol in bottles the size of my head and those famous red cups.
Back at the hostel we drank the rum and coke we bought at Heathrow and chatted to people at our hostel who had just got back from Vegas, Nick, Rory and Jon from Camden. They were pretty shattered from 3 days in Vegas.
There was also a lovely 18 year old German girl who was travelling alone. She told us how she had been approached by producers which sounded suspect. We advised her to be careful!
