Morning bloggers,
After arriving in Singapore we searched around the area but couldnt find a cheap place for the night but had to settle for a mid-range hotel (think premier inn, slightly better), we spent the next day and a half wandering the streets taking in the sights, stopping for a beer the guy tried to change a lightbulb which promptly exploded all over. We were not close enough to get a free beer he was handing to those closer to the explosion site. Bus to Clarke Quay & China town, Singapore is a very modern and upmarket city and dam the beer is expensive.
We left Singapore at 8pm heading for KL, we arrived at KL and with the last bits of mixed cash of US dollars and some Ringgit we scraped enough to get a taxi to the airport. Looking at the departures board we were a little puzzled as there was no flight matching ours! Hmm, excuse me where is our flight? "You are at the wrong airport I'm afraid" we had gone to the international airport but should have gone to the low cost terminal some 20mins away. Another small cash withdrawal from the ATM and we had enough money and luckily enough time to catch our flight to Chennai.
BEEP..... We landed and Chennai Airport (India) early in the morning, and again had no money so need an ATM. 4 Machines later and none were working, walk to the nearby train station, still no ATM, just a million cars, Autorickshaws and people, millions of people. BEEP....BEEP....... No money, no means of getting money I asked somebody for help to find a cash machine, after some frowns and head nodding/shaking the guy pushed to the fron ot the ticket counter and re-appeared with 2 tickets for us. What a kind guy he was and saved us for now.
Chennai is madness BEEP....BEEP, the beeps refer to the never ending sound of car horns in chennai, the place is hell, noisy, crowded, smelly........... A dirty hotel later complete with free cockroach and filthy floors we nearly moved on later that day but decided to stick it out for one night. To kill the time I spent nearly 2hrs trying to post back some stuff to lighten our bags trying to get to the grips with how so many post office workers could achieve so little.
Up next day and we headed on a local bus to Mamallapuram and tidy, less chaotic, touristy place next to the sea. Its our second day here today and we have been to see the local shrines and the beach full of indian tourist jumping waves, the food is great, the people are relaxed and friendly and Chennai is a distant memory.
Blog again soon, hope your all well, send us some emails, we miss you all
