Put on my blue suede shoes (well, flip flops)
And I boarded the plane (well, we drove in Frank)
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain (literally chucking it down)
Then I'm walking in Memphis
Walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel
Yeah baby, we had made it to the home of the Delta Blues and The King himself, Mr Elvis Presley. Now I'm no big Elvis fan but it was very cool touring around Graceland, the planes and the cars seeing it exactly how he was since he "left the building" back in 1977.
From there we took another tour around Sun Studio which has seen many a star record their multi-platinum hit.Of course we took the time to pose with Elvis' microphone (if you believe what the tour guides tell you) and I took enough snaps of guitars to keep my Dad happy. Then it was out on the tiles hitting the tacky, neon bars of Beale Street to chomp on some spicy chicken and boogie to some surprisingly good live music.
From the legend of Elvis and Beale Street, we went to see where the legend of Martin Luther King was shot and then had the privilege of seeing the soul legend Al Green doing his thang - or should I say Bishop Al Green. The soul legend of 'Let's Stay Together' fame found God some years back after some of his records flopped and he saw it as a sign when he fell off the stage at a gig to serve the Lord rather than the general public…So when we realised we were in town on a Sunday, we rocked up to his Full Gospel Tabernacle and joined in with the crazy 'Hallelujahs' and the OTT clapping, finger clicking and swaying - 'Sister Act' eat your heart out.
