After the last 11 days out of 12 sleeping in the tent, we decided to step it up a notch when we got to Chicago and seek out a hostel. However, little did I know Anthony already had a plan up his sleeve when we parked up and made our way over to a very funky hotel…where he had already booked us into a suite! Now I'm normally happy to rough it and I've definitely got used to the hostel and tent life but at heart, I'm really a nice fluffy dressing gown (they were tasteful leopard and zebra print in this case) and free drinks in the lobby kinda-gal.
So what followed was a few days of Art Deco and skyscraper oooo-ing and aaaa-hing, cycling along the lakeshore and around little neighbourhoods and sunning it on the beach before heading back to our little piece of luxury. On our final morning when we found ourselves alone in the rooftop pool, Ant got down on one knee (luckily we were in the shallow end), pulled out a blue plastic ring (imagine Scarlett's borrowed rings in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral') and asked me a question and I said yes!Apparently he'd planned to ask me on the Ferris Wheel on Navy Pier the night before whilst there just happened to be fireworks being set off but that plan had to be scuppered due to a sudden toilet urge after eating Chicago's signature deep dish pizza (way overrated) that meant Ant missed most of the fireworks and I drank my drink way too slowly (as I always do) at the bar at the end of the pier that meant the Ferris Wheel had shut by the time we got there.Oh well, never mind. We're engaged!!!
