So the Grand Prix trip turned out to be an absolute winner! The seats were incredible, probably would have cost about a grand each. They were in the main grandstand on the starting grid opposite McLaren and Red Bull pits. We were only 7 rows back so could see everything so well. The US soldiers we had gone with were a bit confused as to why we were there, we were too, but it all worked out ok and no one found out we were complete imposters.
Spent a few days exploring Seoul, it's an awesome city - probably our favourite place so far. Amazing old architecture and gardens, some great street food and really nice people.
Took a trip up to the North Korean border yesterday (with the US army again!). Went to a place called the Joint Security Area where the North and South both have buildings and army bases on the border line. We went into a meeting room that straddles the border so at the far end of the room we were in North Korea. There are microphones constantly recording what is said and North Korean soldiers watching you through binoculars. As we first appeared out of the building about 10 of them marched out of their building towards us, all pretty scary but incredible to see a real army base and the hostility first-hand.
Flying to Hong Kong tomorrow, were going to overland it but it would have taken forever so we've opted for the quick route. Just managed to get ourselves locked inside the central post office in Seoul which was interesting. The whole place seemed to close around us and we had to take a staff back exit out, nice end to our South Korean experience.
We'll update you from Hong Kong,
Matt and Katie
