Hi everyone. So we flew from Seoul to Hong Kong and arrived Friday evening. Spent the weekend with Avril (Katie's step sister) which was great and a bonus to have local knowledge. Hit all the sights - the peak, big buddha, Lamma Island and took part in the Halloween festivities on Saturday night which was crazy.
We then took a ferry to Macau which is like a mini Vegas but with really nice old colonial Portugese architecture as well. The Venetian casino has a St Marks square and three canals with gondolas all inside it!
After Macau we started one of the most epic journeys we've ever done to get to Yangshuo in mainland China. It took 30 hours and we used the following forms of transport:
Taxi, Ferry, Bus, Metro, Bullet Train, Taxi, Sleeper Train, Minibus, Bamboo Raft, Truck Tuk-Tuk and finally another bus. It was worth it though as it is so beautiful here, surrounded by karst mountains like the picture above. It's on the Li River off of the HSBC adverts where the fisherman use birds to catch the fish.
Spent last night at a girls boarding school. Not in a dodgy way. We were approached by them on the street and given an invite to a party where we sat in "English Corner". They invite foreigners so they can practice their English and we had such good fun. They were all lovely and so welcoming. We even ended up in a conga, learning to Waltz and Katie taught them how to do the twist. Great night.
We're planning on spending a few days here cycling about and exploring the countryside. It's quite hard to get on the internet as the Chinese Government are cracking down on internet crime and the internet cafes don't seem to want to let foreigners in.
