Last day in Fiji today. It's gone so quickly.
Like every other day, I went to the gym first up and did a quick work out. At 8:30am Michael, Kerrie, Britt and I had breakfast together. Dad, Nathan and Alison had gone on an early morning fishing trip.
After breakfast Michael and I walked down to the Marine Centre to check it out. There wasn't much to see but there was a cool traditional fishing basket made out of palm fronds.
After our walk I went back to the room for a few hours and did some study on the terrace. At around 12pm the guys returned from fishing and we congregated at the Takali Terrace for lunch. I had some very fatty pork sliders that were very underwhelming.
For the rest of the afternoon I lay by the pool and read. It was a warmish day but not quite hot enough for call up for a swim.
At 4ish, I went back to my room to pack up my bag.
We had been invited to a nearby village for dinner as a thank you for Kerrie donating a heap of clothes to the Fijian ladies. So at 6pm we got picked up by our driver and taken to the village.
When we arrived the kids crowded around and dad handed out some balls and pool noodles. They were very excited and started to play right away. The Fijians had made a feast for us including fish caught by the fishing crew and cooked on the lovo (a fire pit type thing). After an hour or so of playing with the kids it was dinner time. It's traditional for the guests to eat first so after a welcome song or two (and happy birthday song for me) and some cava we sat on the floor around the feast set up and tucked in. It was all very delicious. There was dish cooked two ways, taro, potato, sweet potato, curry chicken and some coconut taro leaves. The coconut taro leaves were probably my favourite but the fish was also very well cooked and tasted like chicken.
After we finished the kids crowded round and tucked in. The men were outside drinking more cava and some of us had some more cups after dinner. I had one more. It made my tongue really numb and tingly for a while after drinking but no other effects. Dad had three or more cups and was acting a bit loopy when we got back to the resort.
We stayed and played with the kids and talked to the adults for a few more hours. The girls were very cute and taught us clapping hand games and also played with our hair.
At 8:30ish our ride arrived and we said goodbye to everyone. They sang us a goodbye song and we hugged and kissed goodbye. Some of the Fijian ladies were a bit drunk as they had almost finished off all the alcohol that Kerrie had brought for them.
When we got back to the resort I paid my bill and then showered and hopped into bed ready for an early rise in the morning.
It's been a great trip and very relaxing. I'd definitely like to come back again some time.
