Today was my birthday!!! Happy birthday to me!
I started the morning off with a gym workout and Alison even joined me! We had the gym to ourselves and we were in and out in half an hour. Perfect start to the morning.
Breakfast followed that where I got some presents from everyone including some hand cream and some cute cat things. I left breakfast at 9:30am to get ready for my massage.
I met the golf buggy driver at his station at 9:45am and he drove me (quite quickly!) to the day spa. On arrival the ladies had me fill out a consultation form whilst I sat in a comfortable chair and drank a glass of ice cold water and a cup of hot lemongrass tea. Delightful.
My lady, Mary, came and escorted me to the room which was a little bure with a massage room and then a dressing and showering area. I disrobed and re-robed in the robe and then beat a little canoe drum to let her know I was ready and she called me in. I lay on the bed and firstly she gave me a full body scrub. I was nude under the towel which was different but she kept the important bits covered so it wasn't uncomfortable. While the scrub was setting she gave me a head massage and then went off to prepare the shower. I washed the scrub off in the outdoor shower which was so cool! And the products smelt really good.
Then it was massage time! I headed back into the room after drying off and the massage started. For the next hour Mary prodded and rubbed me to get out my knots. There were a lot in my shoulders which were quite painful and in the end she didn't quite get them all. When the hour was up I went back into the dressing room and put on my things. Then Mary walked me back to the foyer where I was surprised to learn that a sneaky red-haired lady had already come and signed my bill as part of my present! Thanks Kerrie!
After a glass of water I decided I'd walk back to the rooms, rather than get the buggy, and I had a nice stroll back along the beach. When I arrived everyone was laying by the pool and I thanked them all for the birthday present.
It was already lunch time so we decided we'd walk down to the Bilo Bar to get something to eat. On the way, I stopped in my room and saw Kerrie and the housekeepers had been busy making a Happy Birthday on my bed out of flowers and leaves and there were balloons all over the bed as well. It was very cool! For lunch I had a veggie wrap which was actually quite tasty.
For the afternoon I mostly lay by the pool reading. I had a quick dunk in the pool but it was a bit too cold for my liking.
We met up for cocktail hour behind our rooms at 5pm. We had a booking at the Golden Cowrie (the fine dining restaurant) at 6:30pm. At around 6 we walked down to see a local kids choir sing, who were very cute, and then went in for dinner.
Everyone really enjoyed their dinner and I had a beef tenderloin which was good. I think the lamb shank that Nathan and Michael had was probably the best looking. For dessert the chef and a few waiters brought out a birthday cake whilst they sang. I was pretty full by then but still managed to eat two slices of cake! It was a really soft sponge cake and I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty it was.
For after dinner delight we went across into the Black Marlin Bar where the DJ we had befriended had set up karaoke for us. Alison sang numerous songs, dad and Nathan sang "I got you babe"
(which was hilarious) and I sang "b****" which I didn't think was my best performance. Alison and I also sang "Wannabe" which we nailed.
After a while people started to disperse and at 9:30ish I also retired. It was a really terrific birthday. How lucky am I to have spent it in Fiji!?
