Today we were up at 7.00 went down for breakfast. Breakfast was pretty busy hard to find a seat. The hotel is called Hotel Villa and is quite nice it is a fair way outside the city. Today we are doing a city tour with a local guide. Her name is Michaela. Very interesting tour but unfortunately it is a Jewish holiday so we were unable to go into the Jewish museum. 27000 Jews were sent to Auschwitz 60000 were put in a detention centre that was supposed to hold 4000 1 out of 4 died. 3000 that were sent to Auschwitz survived. Czechoslovakia is a socialist state that was a communist country under soviet rule from the end of WWII till 1989. Education is free including university. We went Charles bridge named after Charles IV. The Hapsburgs are family whose name keeps coming up. At one stage they ruled 17 countries. The queen had 16 children and married the daughters off to kings of other countries. Her name was Maria Theresa and one of her daughters names was Marie Antoinette. Anyway we tour around the city looking at beautiful buildings until we come to the astronomical clock. It is from here we are to go back to our meeting place. So we walk around and buy our souvenirs. We do this and then buy some lunch. Scott and Trevor get a hunk of ham that is cut straight off the pork roasting on the spit. Danos and Gerard have goulash. We make our way back to the bus to go for our tour of the palace. The palace sits up on the hill and is like an old city. There is a lovely cathedral and the palace and some small houses that give you an idea of how they lived. Tonight we have a tour group dinner at the hotel where we stay. The boys go straight to the bar when we get back beers were 30 czech crowns which equates to $1.50. Double baileys were 120 crowns so $6.00. Anyway we have dinner and then back to the bar. There are a few Aussies on the tour, some Americans, Phillipinos, Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis, Kiwi, Canadians and British.
