Paris was gorgeous. The city doesn't have as much charm as some of the smaller French cities we've been through but it's definitely got character. The first day there we spent the afternoon in Versai, which was beautiful, I definitely recommend it to anyone. We didn't get there in time to see the gardens (close at 5.30) but I would love to go back one day and walk through it all properly.
Max, one of Henry's friends who lives near Versai showed us around and brought train tickets for us which was great to have! Saved us a lot of hassle.
The boys all went out that night and got to experience first hand how crap the Paris taxi system is. No taxi was willing to take them home because they weren't staying right in the city (even though it's only a 15min drive) and so they had to wait for the trains to open up again at 5am... Not the happiest. Erin, Ellie and I went to the Nortre Dame and had dinner before doing a bit of exploring.
Today we went and had a picnic at the Eiffel tower for lunch, which was really nice. and then we walked around and saw the Invalides and the Louvre. It was really hot so we stopped a few times for lemonade or to wade our feet in the cool fountains to cool down. There are so many people everywhere just out and about, I've never seen anything like it. Around some of the big fountains, people were lounging the whole way around it on sun beds, on the long road leading up to the louvre, people are playing soccer and volleyball, or just chilling out on the grass on the side the whole way up. Henry and I went out for dinner at a nice restaurant down by a canal that Max told us about, and even there, the whole way up there were just hundreds of people sitting next to the canal and hanging out. I've never seen anything like it, it was pretty cool. We couldnt find the restaurant strip that Max was talking about, but we still found a really nice place to eat which was really nice, then we had our own hotel for the night right in the city, so on the way home we saw the arch de triumph and some the Eiffle tower lit up.
The tube system is pretty easy to work out. No where near as efficient as Londons, and very hot on the trains, but it was still an easy way to get around.
We've got an early morning as we didn't realize that when you fly budget airlines, alot of them don't actually fly into Paris, they fly to an airport 1 hour away. So we've got to get to the shuttle bus station early to get out there. Yuk. Would have been great to have another couple of days in Paris, we had to rush through alot and there's heaps to see!
