Brussels has nothing on Brugge's charm and character. I guess any city that starts to get big starts to loose it's charm. I think the main thing that didn't help was that we were staying in a dodgy area, I'm sure if we were staying right in the city I would have had a totally different opinion. I had my camera around my neck at one point and a store owner told me to hide it, and to not walk around with it in those areas. All through the day and night there were people standing alone on corners and people running, but on the plus side it was only one night and our hotel was still quite nice.
Inside the old square was still beautiful, and I had the best waffles of my life! We went to a really nice (and expensive!) waffle place, and had waffle with chocolate syrup, Hagen daaz ice-cream (yum! Strawberry and cream is amazing!) and whipped cream. I was tempted to get the ice cream fondue which also looked amazing, but in the end I'm glad I had the waffles!
There's heaps of cool little chocolatiers in Brussels too, some where you can see them making it in front of you (little bit of drool). We hung around the city and waited for dark to see the square lit up at night, which I'm glad we did, it looks amazing lit up, even better than Nancy's square which has still been my favorite up to this point.
This morning we got up early to catch a train to the other side of Brussels to get on a bus to Paris. Nothing like a bit of rushed stress in the morning trying to figure out where to catch it, pay it etc etc. In the end we got there half an hour early so no need to stress. Now for the 5 hour bus ride to Paris. Gotta say, I'm getting pretty sick of traveling, I'm ready to just get to a spot and stay there for a while and not have to pack my bag every 2 days and cart it around.
