Happiness Is The Road
We decided to not do much today and mainly chill. After breakfast we went to have a look at the beach nearest the camp site. It was quite a way out over some dunes so we agreed to go elsewhere. We had a drive around the lake first of all. Although it was very scenic there wasn't really anywhere suitable to spend a few hours so we drove down to the ocean and found a beach at Bastion Point where we relaxed for a while and soaked up the sun. Later on we drove a bit further down the coast to another beach. We went on a walk around a river here and back to the beach. When we were all sunned out we went to find somewhere to stay for the night. We had decided not to go back to the foreshore camping area just in case the bagpipe player was still lurking. We opted for a camp site that we had noticed on the way into Mallacoota called Shady Gully Caravan Park. The lady on reception was really nice and said that there were koalas in the bush area next to the camp site. It was fairly quiet and we were told that we could go anywhere we wanted. We chose what we thought would be a nice quiet spot and settled down only to discover to our horror an hour later a caravan rocking up right next to us. There was absolutely loads of space for them to go and be private but they rock up next to us! They parked their caravan literally a couple of feet from where we were completely intruding on our space. They seriously though seemed oblivious to us being there. It appeared that we had become invisible. They were an older couple and the guy in particular appeared to be dosed up on drugs. We moved the camper to another spot and watched them in bewilderment from a distance. They did not seem to notice that we had gone. It was quite the most strange situation. We then noticed that the back screen of their car was smashed. It appeared that the damage was somehow done whilst their caravan was being reversed into place as it seemed to have been done in a very cack handed way and the caravan was parked up at a weird angle. He came to look at the damage and pulled two big fragments of glass out and just chucked them on the grass with a dim arrogance. He made no attempt to pick the glass up, what an unthoughtful dumb ass. We were better off away from them. Later on we went for a walk in the woods. There were no clear paths and no evidence of any koalas. The only thing we saw was broken glass! In the camp site reception earlier amongst all the brochures I had noticed a leaflet advertising Henty Bay Caravan Park. No wonder there were no koalas, they were in on this together!
