Happiness Is The Road
It is Jay's birthday today and we decided to have a birthday chill day. We got up late and had a leisurely breakfast. We were going to go for a short walk but decided against it due to the heat. It was very hot today and already uncomfortable by mid morning. We just relaxed by the camper and stewed in the heat. The temperature got up to about 36 degrees and there was one of those breezes that felt like a hot hair dryer. This was a beautiful place to just sit and do nothing in. The scenery all around us was breath taking. At around half six I got some bread out and started looking for the cockatoos. They were none about but a couple of beautiful looking ducks waddled over and I started throwing bread down for them. Suddenly one cockatoo appeared and noticed the bread. He came flying down for a feast. Word then got around and before we knew it there were about 10 cockatoos, 5 ducks and 3 greedy black birds all getting stuck in. It was pandemonium at one point as the cockatoos fought amongst themselves and with the black birds. There was a lot of fisticuffs! Only the ducks were placid and not fighting. Feeding time for the birds over, we grabbed showers and got ready to go out. We went out for a meal for Jay's birthday, the first meal that we've eaten out since Jay got here. We went to see the kangaroos on the way to the restaurant and saw an incredibly cute baby joey. The Quarry Restaurant was only a five minute walk away. We had spotted it a couple of nights ago and liked the menu. The restaurant wasn't very busy but it had a lovely ambience and the service and food were absolutely excellent. The menus were placed in old vinyl album covers. Jay got Kenny Rogers and I got Pink Floyd. We always share our food and we had kangaroo with sweet potato and salad and fried camembert to start. For mains we had the surf 'n' turf steak and the quarry tower steak with bacon, mushrooms and cheese. This was all washed down with a really tasty bottle of C******nay from a local Victoria vineyard. We had a really nice time and with all the wine we left feeling just a little bit tiddly! We went and sat on a bench on the main street for ages and just talked and laughed. It was a balmy hot evening. It was a hot one tonight. Happy Birthday my darling Jay.
