Happiness Is The Road
We woke up to zero wildlife. We'd had no nocturnal visitors. Even the wasp had succumbed to the depression and was dead in the corner of the window. The fake koala was still nailed to the top of a tree! We didn't feel like having breakfast here so we got up, had a pee, and left. We decided to have breakfast on the road. We hit the road up to the Grampians mountain range. We drove for about an hour and a half until we could see the mountains clearly. We then stopped at a picnic area to have breakfast. We fried up bacon(sugar free,) eggs and tomatoes and sat an ate to the best breakfast view ever. After brekky we continued our journey to Halls Gap which is right in the centre of the Grampians. On the way we stopped for a short walk at Silverband falls. It was a lovely walk through the trees to the falls which were just more than a trickle but still very nice to see. Halls Gap is a really lovely little town surrounded by the most beautiful mountain scenery. It is very green here with the mountains covered by trees. We checked in at the caravan park which is right in the centre of the town. The lady at the caravan park was very helpful and provided us with guides to all the local walks. She also said that there were loads of kangaroos at the camp site. It's doubtful that these are fictitious this time!
We set up camp and then went for a walk around by the cabins where the lady had said some roos would be grazing. She wasn't wrong. Suddenly Jay saw her first kangaroo. She just stood there spell bound watching these wonderful creatures. She thought they were incredible. There were loads of them. There was one big male one in particular who growled a bit and stared at Jay. It seemed that she had stood between him and the object of his desire. We then watched him follow this female kangaroo around. He kept touching and stroking her tail and she kept shaking him off. He seemed desperate to have his way with her and she seemed to be telling him that she had a headache! We had a walk around the town and had a mooch in the shops and then went back to the camper. As it was now early evening more and more roos had appeared and the camp site was filled with them. This was such a wonderful sight for Jay. As well as the roos there were loads of white cockatoos flying around. These are really beautiful birds. We noticed that some people over the way were feeding them bread so later on we got some bread out and one of the cockatoos noticed. He was a really cheeky one and he flew down to get the crumbs. All of sudden all his mates heard about this and before we knew it we had loads of these gorgeous birds all around us. It was magical. This is the best camp site Jay and I have been to together so far. We went to sleep with roos grazing all around the camper.
