Happiness Is The Road
We went for showers when we got up and Jay had problems. There were only three shower cubicles in the ladies and when Jay got there one was being used. The other two had just been nabbed by the Germans in a similar way that they hog the sun loungers next to hotel swimming pools. They had put their towels, shampoo etc in the cubicles and then gone for a ****. Jay saw them doing this just as she walked in. She then had to wait. The lady who was already having a shower came out before the Germans had ******* and tut tutted at what they had done. It was so inconsiderate of them to do this. They just don't care about other people. It's just horrible selfishness on their part. We have noticed that generally Germans are very selfish and very annoying. Anyhow when Jay had finished her shower the horrible German ladies had gone but one of them had left her shower running. Jay had to turn it off!!! We decided to get out of this place and go for breakfast somewhere else. We drove to the Split Point Lighthouse car park and had a lovely peaceful breakfast there at one of the picnic tables. After that we had a walk up to the lighthouse and had a look at all the stunning coastal scenery here. The Great Ocean Road is a wondrous place. We then had a walk down a load of steps to Steps Beach and sat here for ages just soaking up the sea and scenery. For the most part we had the beach completely to ourselves. We then hit the road again and passed through Anglesea and then onto Torquay which marks the end of the Great Ocean Road. Just outside of Torquay we stopped at Rocky Point to have some lunch. We also went and sat on the beach and listened to the new Flume album. It was perfect chilled music for our perfectly chilled moods. We then drove into Torquay which is a biggish town. It seemed very ordinary and a bit of a let down after all the beautiful and awe inspiring scenery we have seen on this section of the journey. We then went to find a camp site. We had decided to go a bit further along to a place called Ocean Grove where the Barwon River meets the ocean. We stumbled across a camp site on the spit of land that separated the river from the sea. It was a quirky bush camping area with loads of sites but no clear signs as to whether you had to pay and who to. We stopped and I asked someone who told us where the reception was. We found it further down the road. The camp site was massive, a huge powered section and the unpowered bush section which we had stumbled across. We liked the look of the bush section so opted to stay there. I asked for a site with a river view and got one which was great. We actually ended up next door but one to the nice guy who had given me directions earlier. The site we got was great, very spacious with a brilliant river view. The facilities were only basic but there were hot showers. We had a lovely chicken pasta and salad tea looking out over the river. We watched the sun go down later on till it was glowing orange on the horizon. The stars then started to appear and the night sky was glorious. We took some photos out into the dark and got orbs on all of them. It's wonderful to know that the orbs are following us on our amazing adventure.
