Happiness Is The Road
It was raining when we woke up this morning but it stopped soon after and was getting sunny. We have been very lucky with the weather in Tasmania as usually they have a lot of rain. In the three weeks we've been here it's only rained twice and that's been overnight. We checked out of the camp site at 10 but we couldn't get out of the camp site until about an hour later. There was a triathlon going on in Devonport and the road outside the site was being used for the cycling. We had watched earlier from the camp site the first part of the triathlon, the swimming race where they all swam out into the ocean. We didn't mind the wait as we were in no hurry. We were catching the ferry back to the mainland today but we couldn't check in until 5. We had all day to kill. We first of all went to Woolworths and then we parked up on the foreshore with a view across to the ferry that was already moored up and waiting to take us away from this mad island later. We had a mooch around a market nearby but spent most of the day in the back of the camper just chilling. At about ten to five we drove around to the ferry port and got in the queue. There were some annoying people in the queue just playing music too loud and acting like *****. They thought they looked hard but they were simpletons and they were playing Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars so they looked pathetic. Mindless people always seem to play mindless, bland and commercial sheep music. We couldn't wait to get on the ferry and soon enough the vehicles in front started moving and we were away and up the ramp onto the ferry. We found our Ocean Recliner seats and took the now obligatory photos of the reading lamps up against our noses! We also ate some cheese butties that we had made earlier. We didn't fancy the Captains Feast tonight. When the ship set sail we went to properly explore. We hadn't done this on the way over as we were too busy getting tiddly and stuffing our faces. We went on the outside decks where it was extremely windy and onto the upper deck. It was like a different ship up here, very scruffy and it appeared to be full of 'murderers and simpletons' swaying around in a zombified state! It was like suddenly being transported into a parallel dimension! We went back to the relative safety of the lower deck and went to see if the musicians from last time were playing in the bar, they weren't which was a shame. Although it was the same boat as last time the vibe and ambience just weren't the same. One of the simpleton Justin Bieber fans from earlier was in the bar. This wasn't good and he waved at Jay. ****, we were out of there. We escaped to another bar further down the deck and had a beer and a glass of wine. The ship was full of strange people tonight. Also the crossing wasn't as smooth as last time. The swell was up and the ship was swaying about a lot more. After our drinks we went back to our Ocean Recliners but Jay was starting to feel a little queasy! Eventually we both fell asleep. The ship sailed on closer and closer to Melbourne.
NOTES ON TASMANIA
Tasmania hasn't met our expectations and I don't think we'll ever return here. However, despite what's been written on the blog we have had a good time in Tasmania. We have been to some wonderful places with the most amazing scenery, met some really lovely people and it is worth a visit. There are things though that have let Tasmania down for us, such as the nasty drivers and the strange people. It's a real shame as the Tasmanian experience could be so much better.
