Happiness Is The Road
We both slept really well an awoke feeling refreshed. After brekky we went for a walk into Penguin town. There is a big concrete penguin on the foreshore and we took our photos with it. The litter bins here have penguins on them and everywhere you look, shop fronts etc there are penguins. This is a sweet place. Yesterday I had worked out a rough itinerary for our Tasmanian adventures and it was decided that we would tackle the island going clockwise. We headed away from Penguin back through Devonport and to Port Sorrell. We stopped at an elevated look out and got a great view of the beautiful Tasmanian countryside. From here we drove onto the Narawntapu National Park where we had chosen a camp ground for the night. We went to the park office and paid our camping fee. There was a choice of a powered site near the park office or an unpowered site down by the water and where there was a lot of wildlife. We opted for the unpowered, Bakers Point camp ground, and drove down to the site which was about six kilometres away. It was a lovely place on the water inlet with massive spacious sites in bush land. We chose a spot and chilled out. We had a picnic table on our site and had our tea there. It was nearly dusk now and the time for the wild life to become active. Jay heard some rustling and noticed a cute little wallaby. She then spotted a big kangaroo hop through nearby. We had been told that there were Possums and Wombats here too. Jay saw what might have been a Wombat in the under growth but it moved too quickly and therefore this sighting remains unverified. Just before dark we went for a walk around the site and to go to the pit toilets, which incidentally weren't too bad here. We met an Australian couple on the way who told us that there were lots of Wallabies and Wombats down near the water. They also told us that they had Possums on their caravan roof last night. We went to the loo and then went down to the water. We had a torch with us and scanned everywhere for wildlife. We saw loads of cute Wallabies but no Wombats. The Wombat remains elusive. We went round the site twice and really enjoyed our wild life spotting. We felt like Kate Humble and Bill Oddie on an episode of Nature Watch!! We had a lovely peaceful night here. It is one of the best places we have stayed together.
