Mountain Zebra National Park - Dec 2nd to 3rd

We packed up and said goodbye to Karoo National Park and started the 401km drive to Mountain Zebra Natoinal Park.Again lots of amazing scenery and some mixed driving conditions, as we climbed various mountain passes the visibility would drop to practically nothing, then in the low lands the sun was shinning bright.

We came across Aberdeen on the our travels, not quite the same as the one I'm used to in Scotland, especially with the sun shining bright!

Mount Zebra wasn't quite as nice as we'd hoped, the camp site was a bit smaller and again after some debate over where the camp we got the tents out and settled down under the awning for a well deserved cold beer and wine!!To pass the time we played a game of Uno, as we took a break we looked over at the mountains and could see a storm approaching, then noticed the wind coming, someone even commented, seconds later - BAM!the roof tent had collapsed shut and the awning was trying to become a sail again (thankfully this time pinned down).Then the rain started and lightening approached!I managed to get on the roof and with Paul got the cover on the roof tent, then we stuggled to get the awning down.As we were concentrating on this side of things the wind and rain were just getting stronger and stronger and Dave and Kaz's ground tent was starting to take a battering.We moved the defender to try to give it some shelter and retired to the inside of Kal as the rain kept coming!Surely it would be a short storm, maybe not.As the winds continued one of the tent poles in the ground tent suddenly snapped - maybe Howling Moon tents weren't all they were cracked up to be!Dave managed to get the poles out so that the tent wasn't taking so much of a beating the rain poured down.

The rain didn't seem to want to stop so we cancelled our Braai ideas and decided it was canned food night, thankfully the camp had a small indoor kitchen so we broke out the canned veggie biryani for me and mutton curry for the guys, sounds disgusting but mine was okay and the guys seemed to enjoy theirs or at least it did the job!!After dinner the rain lightened a bit, Dave was able to put the ground tent back up and we got the roof tent back in shape and settled in for a possibly soggy nights sleep!

Thankfully in the morning the sun was shinning so we were able to dry most things out but we'd had enough of Mount Zebra National Park so decided to move on!
