Kruger, Lower Sabie Dec 12th to 14th
Kaz had been told in camp to look out for a male lion only about 100m from the camp gates and sure enough enjoying the shade of a tree there was a magnificent male just waiting to be photographed, click, click click I went! My window bean bag that Paul had gotten me for my birthday was working a treat for resting my heavy zoom lense on while I could tell Paul was glad we'd invested in a digital (on our last trip to Kruger I'd had a film SLR which resulted in an awful lot of pictures needing to be developed and although you can take a 100 pictures of a lion or an Elephant only one or two really need printed!!).
Lower Sabie was very nice with the restaurant having a huge balcony overlooking the dam. Here we could here the lions roaring as it got dark but we didn't get the chance to see any again. We did come across our first Elephants though which were fantastic the group we got very close to had some very young calf's. I never get tired of watching Ellie's they are so graceful!!
Another highlight was the sighting of a wild dog, something I'd never seen before. Usually they hang around in packs but this was a lone individual sitting quietly by the road side. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we see more of these amazing animals on our travels!!
