Elliot - Dec 3rd to 4th
We drove to Queenstown and filled up the thirsty landy, we were to rack up 308km today and pass the 1,000km mark today, only 22,000km to go!We decided a Nando's was in order for lunch and all enjoyed that. The town was quite big, very different from Cape Town with bustling streets and we definitely felt like the minority, everyone was very nice though especially our car attendant at the Sasol filling station, he was full of energy and very excited about looking after the car when we went for a walk into town!!
We weren't sure where we were going to stay tonight but headed on to Elliot where the GPS was showing a caravan site. When we got there we just couldn't find one so eventually followed signs to a local dam and "caravan park"we found the dam and followed the signs to the caravan park but didn't really find anything but some zebra munching on some grass, it was raining again!!Just behind the dam wall there was a nice big tree and what looked like an old camp fire, we decided this was the spot, our first 'bush' camping, it would be a nice spot if it wasn't for the rain!
We unpacked and broke out the beers/wine, amazingly the boys managed to get a fire going and we enjoyed an evening round the camp fire!It was a bit weird camping in what was basically a field, in the middle of the night we could hear the zebra munching in the rain right next to the car, very cool although it did take me a while to get back to sleep listening to every little sound - something we'd all need to get used to!!
Again as we woke, the sun was shinning, the night before we'd been able to see nothing for the cloud and mist but there were amazing mountains in the background as I opened the roof tent to the bright sunshine! Again we dried out and enjoyed our first fry up breakie of the trip.
