Today the sun was out so I was hoping the temperature might be better and I would get an opportunity to walk around in my boardshorts. Unfortunately the water was still off today which was a bit of a b***** as we still couldn't have a shower or even a cup of tea in the morning. Today I really don't have too much of a plan as anything touristic here costs a lot of money and I can't really warrant spending a bunch of money on something here when across the river in Argentina I can do the same things for half the price. Tonight or tommorow morning I do however get to go and stay with a local lady and spend a few days exploring with her which will be a welcome change from what I have been doing. In the morning I did get a chance to walk along La Rambla - the beautiful broadwalk that runs along the southern coast of Montevideo; I took time to both people watch and absorb some sun rays. Around lunchtime I headed back to Haileys and on the way back stumbled across a street market selling various fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses. As fruit and vegetables are incredibly expensive in supermarkets here I took the opportunity to buy a few bits and pieces. When I got back to the apartment the water was still not on so I went and collected a few buckets of water to do all the dishes from lastnight. In the afternoon I went back down to La Rambla and sat in the sun enjoying the calm sea, whilst I was sitting a lovely old Uruguayan lady came and chatted with me and gave me hope for my visit here. The old lady told me of her extensive travels, about her children who all live abroad and about Uruguay - a real treat and an unexpected surprise; and on her departure she gave me a kiss on the cheap and wished me well on my travels. With a nice encounter like that the spring was back in my step, but I had to get the hell away from all the dam Mosquitos that were eating me alive at the beach. I spent the evening chatting with Hailey and then at 9pm took a bus to my new hosts place South of the city. Meeting Ana was wonderful from the first moment she gave me one of those hugs that you give a friend you havnt seen in a long time. We hit it off straight away and talked the whole night away. Ana is a Biochemist and very knowledgable on nutrition and the body so we shared our knowledge, views and ideas. In 5 minutes with Ana I learned more about Uruguay then my last 4 days here. By 1am we called it a night and I went to bed incredibly happy knowing I would share the next few days with Ana.
