Today was to be an action packed day so I was up early, unfortunately my hosts decided to sleep-in until 11am so I say around waiting for them to wake. First thing we did was head to the markets, a huge market just down the road from where I was staying. I really wanted to have a look around but my hosts just wanted to buy there vegetables and get out, which was a real shame as I believe this was one of the biggest markets in Colombia. The prices were not cheap either but the produce was top shelf. I brought some avocado and a huge papaya. When we got back Jesus was going to make lunch for me and good thing too I was super hungry, the only problem being he took 3.5 hours to cook and kept getting distracted - by the time it came around time to eat I was so hungry and didn't really get to enjoy the food. Later in the afternoon we headed to the birthday party of one of my hosts friends 2 year old sun. The party was strange and we just sat out the front for 3 hours, as I can't speak Spanish I sat saying nothing the whole time. Next up we were headed to a concert at the theatre of a famous Colombian group called Mambo Negro. We arrived and met some of Jesus and Ana's friends, it was again a strange situation where I stood by myself and no one talked to me for like an hour not even my hosts - I apologized for not speaking Spanish and felt incredibly uncomfortable, everyone would just look at me and make little comments to each other - I guess the worst thing is not knowing what is going on, I had no idea what was happening the whole time. The concert started and the group were incredible with about 10 members and all kinds of instruments, all the members of the group sung and danced on stage and the energy was incredible. The music was the sound of Colombia and salsa, about halfway through people got up and started to dance, I also kind of wanted to but was feeling very uncomfortable with the people I was with so I did not. After the performance we went to the bar out the front where there was salsa playing and once again another awkward situation where I just stood there, uneasy, not talking and out of place. This became my wake up call: it is time to learn Spanish, I keep saying it but I have to - to tonight was so embarrassing and it's my own fault U could not communicate. Previously people have made all the effort with me but these people didn't and I needed that - after all I am in their country so the least I can do is learn some language to communicate at a base level. On the way home we dropped Ana of at a club where she was going to party some more, thankfully Jesus was heading home so I continued back with him, glad to have this night over with.
