Waking up at 6am wasn't bad considering I was on a bus racing across the country. We stopped at a small town and it turns out that was supposed to be my stop, but we were super early so I didn't even consider it being the right place. When we got on the bridge I figured we had gone to far and asked driver in broken Spanish, another Colombian came to my rescue and told me he would look after me - turns out we would go all the way to Barranquilla only for him to show me where the buses to Santa Marta were haha. So 3 hours later and an extra $6 I was back in Santa Marta. Unfortunately the bus only takes me to the bus terminal and I have to catch a bus down to the main part of the city, arriving in the city and not being overly impressed I decide to continue on to Taganga - a small fishing village just around the corner from Santa Marta. Arriving to this small cove I am quite impressed by how scenic it is. People here have much darker skin and the town is full of dive shops and small hostels. I walk around for an hour checking out hostels when I run into this Moroccan guy called Abel. He takes me to his hostel which is quite rough but I manage to get my own room for about $6 a night - not bad. We then head to the Playa - a small beach up and around the cove we are at. On the way around we are met by some local drug dealers and scammers - what I imagine will be a regular site around here. We pass them off and make our way around and wow what a site, a hidden paradise, little resteraunts loads of people, yachts and water sports. We head down and go for a swim and meet this guy from Holland who tells us about all the muggings that have been happening and how his two mates were held at gun point lastnight and made to handover their belongings in the middle of town. This had me quite nervous and from this point I decided to put my radar on high alert and stay in doors tonight. Abel and I then met these three girls from the British Isles, they had been traveling South Anerica for 8 months and gave me lots of tips and ideas for my trip. I went in for another swim and met this Colombian guy called Fernando and his whole big family of about 25, it was really nice the young kids were trying to talk to me in Spanish and had me singing Spanish songs with them. It wasn't long before the Tequllia and lime was brought out and we were doing shots out in the middle of the water - this is paradise. We said goodbye to our new Colombian friends and headed back with the three British girls who were here to all do their dive masters (very cheap here). We agreed to meet up and go out with them later but the truth was I was too tired and after all the bad things happening in this small village I wouldn't be going out tonight.
