Feeling Better! After 3 days my flu has cleared and I am back to my old self with some energy to spend. As Lizeth has the day off today we had planned to spend the morning at the house with the family and then go to the city in the afternoon. Breakfast today was another delight for the senses with Colombian hot chocolate, eggs and fresh juice. Along with Lizeths sister Monica we visited the mall and grabbed a few things at the supermarket (I also took the opportunity to ask a bunch of questions about all the delicious looking sweets). When we returned to the house it was time to start preparing the lunch - which I had offered to help with today; making a spicy peanut stirfry and my favorite guacamole. I really enjoy cooking with Lizeths family as we all gather in the kitchen, talk, prepare the food and most importantly give one another our time. Lunch was an absolute feast with fresh lemon juice, leftover Ajiaco, spicy peanut stirfy, fried beef, guacamole and Colombian salad. The lunch lasted over an hour and I got to practice my Spanish a little before showing the family some of my photos from my travels through South America. After lunch Lizeth and I headed into the city and went to a special shop that hand-makes notepads - they were amazing but not having any room to buy anything didn't give me the option to buy. Next stop was the electronics market to see if my iPhone can finally be unlocked - so that I can use the phone feature. We walked through the heart of Bogota and it was really interesting to see all the different people coming and going, wheeling and dealing and going about their life's. it felt slightly dangerous as there were a lot of poor people and shades looking characters hanging around at every corner but I enjoyed looking at all the different street foods and vendors. On arrival at the electronics market we met a lovely lady that helped us to find if my phone can be unlocked but the news was not good and the likelihood is that it will cost over $200. We then had a look at other phones (international) and for around the same price I can pick up a midrange smartphone which is great news - meaning I won't have to fork out $900 for another iPhone when a few hundred dollars can buy a good phone now. We took the Transmilleno (Metro) back to the house and got to witness peak-hour on the metro system - far from a pleasant experience. In the evening we all hung-out and ate, chatted, looked at flights for Lizeths upcoming trip to Australia and made the most of my lastnight in Colombia. I am so excited about Central America that I didn't even try to sleep and instead spend the night surfing the net.
OBSERVATIONS:
- IPhone fail - after 1.5 years of not being able to make a call on my iPhone I am giving up on it ever being fixed and working again
