After waking up constantly through the night through both the bus making frequent stops and the annoying passengers we finally arrived into São Paulo. We were just under 1 hour late and as we drove into the huge metropolis that is São Paulo; the sun was rising just over the horizon and presented a magical sunrise of burnt orange and light reds. We drove through very old areas with old abandoned buildings and ended near the central with its skyscrapers and upmarket apartments. The first thing I had to do was find out how to get to the local bus area - upstairs at the terminal I found an information desk with which I could just use my broken Spanish and hand gestures to gather both the number of the bus and where I should take it from. Luckily there was a guy down at the platform that ran me to the right area and held the correct bus for me. The bus fair here is $1.50 already a 50% increase on that of Foz. The bus drove like a bat out of hell and within 10 minutes I was at the correct stop from where I could walk to Fernandas apartment. I managed to find her apartment with no dramas and make my way up to meet my new host Fernanda. Fernanda is lovely and we hit it off straight away, she had organized a map for me, got my mattress setup and a nice soft towel. We made a cup of tea chatted some more and then it was time for her to go to work. I took a short two hour sleep then got up and went for a wonder. I visited a few supermarkets and they had loads of snack type foods I have never seen and will obviously have to try. The fruit and vegetables here look very good and are quite reasonably priced so I will be trying all the new ones also. After lunch I headed to the Museum of Art which with a little luck is free on Tuesdays. After walking through Fernandas area and looking at the various shops, bars and resteraunts it became very obvious that this is the nicest and wealthiest part of the city. I stopped at a beautiful park (actially more like a jungle)next to Paulista Avenue and wondered around - I love how all the biggest cities in the world put so much money and maintenance into their green spaces. I made it to the museum of art and luckily didn't have to pay the $7 entrance and like myself there were many people making the most of the free Tuesday. I spent a few hours wondering around and was quite impressed by the quality of artwork - as per usual I don't really know what to look for so I slowly walk round with an intrigued look on my face pretending I know what I am looking at. I don't usually like art museums as most are overwhelming but this one was nice and not to big so I would certainly recommend it. On the way back to Fernandas I stopped at a tourist info office situated in a middle of a park and got some info; the girls there were lovely and have me so much info and looked things up on the Internet for me - to show my gratitude I filled out a customer service form so their employers would be aware. In the evening Fernanda had to work so I made some dinner and then relaxed.
When Fernanda got back we chatted for about two hours about everything Brazil/São Paulo and I talked about all my observations for the day. Fernanda has this wonderful energy - kind of like an excited child and conversation with her is wonderful and I can tell my time here will be amazing just to spend with her. We also worked out a little bit of a plan as Thursday is a public holiday here and she will also have Saturday and Sunday off. At around 1am I had to stop talking and let Fernanda get some sleep.
