Today Leo gets back and Lilian is off to Curitiba for the week. I did manage to get a little more sleep lastnight but can't help waking up every hour. In the morning I did my exercises and then headed to the beach to do a little sun baking. I headed back to the house at 11am so I could say Thankyou and goodbye to Lilian and see Leo.
Leo was supposed to drop Lilian off and the come back to the house so i waited around but unfortunately he didn't get back until 4pm and so most of the day had been wasted. Leo had heaps of unpacking to do and so we chatted a bit and tried out all the new toys he had brought in America - Leo obviously loves to shop and had come back from America with a bunch of new toys. Leo made some Acai smoothies with his new and flash blender and they turned out really good! I made some dinner for us and waited to hear if we were going to head out to Leo's parents house in Petropolis this evening or tommorow morning. At 8pm Leo decided we would head out to Petropolis to attend his brothers birthday gathering so we packed a few things and then jumped in the car. Leo drives like a rally driver and is absolutely bursting with energy which made the trip very exciting, he also took the time to point out a heap of interesting places and things which was really nice - my own private guided tour. The roads were really empty (something very rare in Rio) and we made it to Petropolis in good time; coming into Petropolis was quite interesting with the roads weaving in and out of the mountains; a lot of fun in the car. When we arrived in downtown Leo gave me a bit of a tour and I got to experience a little of Petropolis by night. We arrived at Leo's parents house and I was met by his lovely family and a bunch of Leo's brothers friends who were around for the brothers birthday celebration. Leo's brother insisted I drink so not to be rude I took one shot of the very delicious cinnamon cachaca (cane sugar liquor) and joined the party. A few people could speak a little English but for most part people couldn't which made for some interesting exchanges. They were having cheese fondu and dried hams so Leo and I had a second helping of dinner. The birthday cakes came out and we all sang happy birthday in Portuguise whilst the candles were blown out. Leo's parents are so nice and kept showing me things, making sure I had something to eat and drink and making me feel overly welcome. I was very tired but sat around talking with a few of Leo's friends that spoke a little English and a little Spanish and they were all so blown away by my lifestyle and asked 100s of questions. We chatted late into the night and I learned a bunch of things about Brazil the people and the culture - Leo's brother kept trying to get me to drink and go out to the nightclub but thankfully I could talk my way out of it. By 2am everyone had gone and I could get some sleep; Leo's Mum set up the blow up mattress and made my bed with a heap of rugs; as its very cold here at night and then I headed straight to sleep.
