We set early from Mount Gambier this morning and visited The Blue Lake just outside the town. It is an old volcanic crater and it is aptly called because the water is the most vivid blue in summer and the reflections can be very clearly seen.
Next we travelled to Port Fairy a very pretty town on a river. This is where The Great Ocean Road offically starts!
We continued through forests and rolling hillsides to Warrnambool another attractive town with wide streets and old buildings.
Then the scenery changed as we drove along the coast. On this stretch of coastline the limestone has been eroded into the most fantastic formations! The beaches of golden sand are backed by high majestic cliffs and the beaches are deserted as they are inaccessible.
We stopped at The Bay of islands, The Bay of Martyrs and then The Grotto. A climb down brings you to a hole in the rocks looking out to sea. London Bridge is a long stack in the sea which is now detached fron the land because a section of it collapsed. The Arch is obviously a hole through the rock. Loch Ard Gorge is magnificent!! A climb down brings you to a very sandy beach between two high cliffs and the sea. It was truly stupendous but it's such a shame about all the tourists as they get in the way of photos! Then the formation everybody has heard of - The Twelve Apostles or Eleven as it is now! The photos will not do all these justice especially as a lot of them were taken into the late afternoon sun.
After all the sightseeing we got to Lavers Hill and booke into a basic motel with llamas at the back of the room and a lovely view of the hills.
It really has been a day of 'awe and wonder!'

Jenny and Kim It looks 'wow' from your photos so to have experienced it then multi 'wows'. I am sure the motel wasn't that basic. Have noticed you selected a quote from the Foundation/National Curriculum. Not sure if this means that you haven't quite forgotten your past life or you at last know the true meaning of the phrase!!! ps the sun IS shining here.
