Another great day! We set off early again and drove to the Otway Fly Treetop adventure. This is in the Great Otway National Park and most of the trees are Mountain Ash - the world's tallest flowering plants. It is not the same as our Mountain Ash and is a eucalypt. Two types of fern dominate the under storey - hard Water Ferns and soft Tree Ferns.
The Otway Fly is a 600 metre long walkway, 25 metres above the forest floor and made from over 120 tonnes of steel. It can rock slightly especially the cantilever section. There is also a spiral tower along the walk which has 104 steps to the top (I counted them!) and is 47 metres from the forest floor. I climbed this (Mick didn't) and at the top you are virtually level with the tree tops. A spectacular view and an awful long way down.
Dinosaurs lived here millions of years ago and there is also a dinosaur trail to follow on the forest floor.
The trees are so tall that if you look carefully they sway even without any wind so the walkway would not be a good idea for people afraid of heights.
We were lucky to see a yellow robin with a? ? yellow breast.
We were told the walk would take an hour but we took two hours because we kept stopping and marvelling!
From here we drove to Cape Otway with the intention of seeing the famous lighthouse. It was so exciting on the way because we saw real, live koalas in the trees. They were just sitting in the branches sleeping and occasionally stretching out a leg or arm! I've waited 6 weeks to see wild koalas and now I have.
We didn't see the lighthouse as you had to pay $20 each for a guided tour and you couldn't get near it otherwise so we didn't bother.
We arrived at Apollo Bay And booked into a lovely motel oppodite the beach and spent an hour sitting on the beach watching people trying to body board.
Tomorrow we hope to be in Melbourne by early afternoon.
