This morning we set off at 8:30 to drive to Kings Canyon. When we arrived there were already lots of cars and coaches and it was about 38C. The canyon was beautiful but it was just too hot to walk very far. Some people were walking up a rock to do the rim walk which looked extremely exhausting. It was a little hot last night as we turned the aircon off because it is noisy. At 8:30 we were at reception trying to sort out the helicopter flight. We picked the camper van up and set off about 11am after the video about what to do etc etc. then we drove to Uluru. 445km in total! It was such a long drive but luckily there were no traffic lights, very little traffic and straight roads. The scenery was very desolate with mainly red dust, some grassy tufts, some small trees and the occasional rock outcrop. Our flight for Alice Springs left Perth at 12:15 today. It was cloudy as we left so that spoiled the view to start off with but after a while the sky cleared. For a while I could see straight, unsealed dirt roads that often appeared to go nowhere but no habitation at all. Just a vast empty space of red earth and dried up salt lakes.
