I have been meeting the local wildlife, an interesting lot!
Our hostel in the Catlins was right on the beach, home of the Sea Lions which, despite thier lazy and almost comatose appearance, can actually move at an impressive speed as I found out, nearly to my peril, as I was being chased by a huge bull Sea Lion with enormous teeth! Luckily all that training at the gym paid off (haha) and I escaped with all my limbs intact. And they roar, just like a lion. I guess the clue is in the name ;-)
The rarest penguin in the world, the Yellow Eyes Penguin, honoured us with front row seats at a trip up the catwalk, well the beach, as they stumbled and tumbled from the sea to the cliff where there caught somes zzz's. They liked to gather at intervals, as if having a natter, before toddling and hopping off again. there were Sea Lions too at this beach, but luckily none found me that day!
The best thing about Dunedin, further north of the Catlins, was the wildlife. Fluffy white Albatross chicks and Blue Penguins waddling ashore in the dark (they looked like white blobs it was so dark!)- who knew what a screeching racket they make!
Despite our hostel here being called Hogwartz, there were no sighting of Harry et al during the whole stay. Not even Dobby was in his room! Maybe someone had given him a sock.....
