CHandipur is a tiny beachtownabout 300kmsouth of calcutta. We were eager to see what the beaches in inDIA WERELIKE AND OUR FIRST IMPRESSION WASNT THAT GREAT. while the beach itself isnice, thepiles ofrubbish everywhere just ruin it. CHandipur beach is 5km wide,so you can walk for 5kmin ankle deepwater and only then you reach the properocean.its definately unique. the pros are that its quiet and smalland quaint. lots of indian holidaymakers around at themoment and we did actually have some trouble finding a place. excuse the typing, the keyboard i'musing is USELESS! the weather is particularly nice at the moment, most days about30c. Much to our surprise we walked along the beach on our first dayand stumbled across 1000s of bright red horse shoe crabs littering the far end of the beach. it was like a sea of red, something off nationalgeographic.we were feelingpretty blessed to have seen such an amazing sight out of pure chance. it is also turtle breeding season and many endangered turtlesmigrate along the east coast beaches,so we have seen a few dead ones washed up on the shore who must have lost their groups. They are massive turtles about 1m x.7m in length. alas we didnt swim at chandipur, mainly because of the rubbish issues but also because the 5km walk to the ocean was a little far :D
