Day 29 Monday 9/09 Ankara > Goreme (Cappadocia) 24 deg Sunny -
Judy here...We are impressed with Turkey, which is modern, the people are friendly, helpful and seem very respectful of their surroundings. It is very clean and gardens flourish, with great roads, transport and infrastructure support. The country on the way was quite flat and open, then broad valleys between mountain ranges with a lot of agriculture and a salt lake that was over 20klms.
Close to our destination, we rounded a corner and all went "OMG", we had hit Cappadocia and were "gobsmacked" with the vista before us. We went to the Goreme Outdoor Museum, which consists of the caves, churches and fairy chimneys that were inhabited around the 11th century. The tiny churches with amazing frescos and the other living arrangements were extraordinary. We walked back into town, watched the sunset set over the valley, had dinner at our hotel...and then...we went and had a Turkish bath and massage, which was so divine and luxurious, it's hard to put into words how wonderful we felt. Enid wants one every day!
I have been fortunate to have visited some amazing places and this experience is at the top of the list for places that will stay as an amazing memory for me!
