Day 35 Sunday 15/09 Bodrum > Izmir 33 deg Sunny -
Judy here...After a rest for the driver in Bodrum we headed up the Mediterranean coast to Izmir, 3rd largest city in Turkey. En route we stopped at one of the most remarkable ancient sites we have visited, Priene a Greek city 300 B.C., the first city to be built on a grid plan which was on a port and is now surrounded by cotton fields. The Temple of Athena was at the top of the hill with commanding views of the countryside. The theatre was impressive and some play acting was happening with everyone in costume and Caesar was the star, so this was fitting for the site. We also visited the ruin of Miletus who gave the classical alphabet to the world, you feel so humbled after experiencing such history. We had a coffee in Kusadasi, a lovely seaport which we will come back to on our cruise and then to Izmir, where our hotel room had stunning views of the "Med". As we are on the west coast we watched another glorious sunset over Turkey. Bir dahaki sefere kadar! (till the next time!)
