Day 32 Thursday 12/09 Antalya > Pamukkale 35 deg Sunny -
Judy here...The day started with a swim for Enid in the Mediterranean, the first for the holiday. This area is the Turkish Riviera and we spent the morning looking at the "Old Town" set on a harbour, with views to the Toros Mountains and Mediterranean. The main players in the towns' structural formation were Alexander the Great 2 B.C. and Hadrian AD 130, these emperors sure got around. Travelling once again through the most awesome mountains to Pamukkale, a small town famous for an amazing natural phenomenon was another OMG moment...the Travertine terraces which were part of the ancient city of Heirapolis 190 B.C. Again we were overwhelmed by the beauty and history. After "oohing and ahhing" at every turn, we headed for the travertine terraces which is a constant flow of calcium rich water from springs at a constant 35 deg, oh what bliss! We enjoyed the time in the water as the sun was setting and then headed for a vantage point to watch the sun go down on the brilliant white terraces, another wonderful day. Our hotel is family run and was delightful, with a wonderful home cooked meal of trout and roasted chicken in a wood oven, followed with baklava and then to our room which featured a round bed and a canopy of purple sheer curtain, another memory!
