Saturday 6th December - Free day from organised activities so i spent the day in Sydney City Centre. I went down to Paddy's Market which is a big indoor market full of traders stalls, all sorts, fruit, veg, meat, fish, hats, shoes etc, you name it they had it. Very cheap too and definitely a place to haggle. Paddy's Market is right next to China Town, the same as ever other china town i've been too! On the other side is Darling harbour, the more expensive side of town. Lots of yatchs and fancy restaurants line the harbour so most definitely out of my price range. I took a walk up to Hyde Park, much smaller than the one in London but still very central to the city and a good place to find your way to and from. Sydney's City centre lay out is very simple with 3 main roads running parrell to the harbour and everything else running off these roads. Still lots more to discover in Sydney but hopefully i will have more of an oppourtinty when i'm back for xmas.
Saturday night was a pub crawl around Coogee and Sydney City Centre. A little messy for some but a very cheap night nonetheless. Plently of backpacker bars in and around Sydney.
Sunday 7th December - Again, no actitvites in the day time. Lazy day today spent on the beach and around Coogee as it was "family fun day" this just meant there were lots of stalls and things to look at. I also did a lot of planning for my tip today, looking at things i'd like to see and do up the east coast and sorting out travel etc. Booked a few things up so very excited!
Sunday evening was a brilliant night. We were taken to dinner up Sydney Tower, a revoling resturdant high above the city, hosting beauitful views at night. It reminded me very much of being up the empire state building at night. I could just about see the bridge, altough hidden by a large building but darling harbour was luminous and it was a lovely setting for dinner. Dinner was an all you can eat buffet of a range of foods including octupus (very yummy) and kangaroo. We didn't get very much Kangaroo but i wouldn't have wanted much more. It's a very strong tasting meat, quite tough but not unpleasent. It was nice to try but i wouldn't have wanted a large amount of it. Unfortunetly no crocodile but maybe next time! It was a really nice way to end the week and say goodbye to everyone. I've very much enjoyed my week with ozintro and met some lovely people. Although i think you could have easily have planned it all youself having a hassle free week was definitely an easy way to ease yourself into backpacking life.
I've started to settle in to living in a backpack, tough being so organised all the time and trying to keep things tidy. I've already got some things to send home having realised i've packed far too much!
