Monday 8th Decemer - Travelling to Adelaide! Plans didn't go quite as expected for this one. Heading to Adelaide with a girl, Claire i met on my first week. We missed our first flight (by 10 mins!) but luckily got transfered no problem onto the next flight, 5 hours later however! After a tedious wait around the airprort the airport was closed for about 2 hours due to an electrical storm! So after a 1.5 hour flight turned into an 7 hour wait we eventually got to Adelaide a little later than planned. We're staying just round the corner from the city centre in a place called Backpack Oz. Compared to the last hostel this place is a palace. Clean, tidy with a very good facilities. The hostel is small but very friendly with a real community/family feel to it.
Tuesday 9th December. First full day in Adelaide. Today i took a walking tour around Adelaide It's a very quiet city, lots of churches and just without the buzz of a city like Sydney. Not really much to see either. I walked by their goverment buildings, war memorial, art gallery, musems etc. The university is right in the city centre and consists of beautiful old traditional buidlings. They city also has a large botanical garden just on the outskirts. 4 days seems like a lot of time to spend here already so i'm looking forward to heading over to Kangaroo Island on Saturday.
Wednesay 10th December - Lovely day here today, around 29 degrees with no cloud. I headed out to a place called Glenleg today, a little costal town about a half hour tram ride away. The beach is beautiful and very quiet compared to others i've been too. The beach is separated by a long jetty with opportunities to jump/dive off into the water. The water is very clear, blue and extreamly warm compared to other places. The town really was lovely with lots of little shops and resturants to explore. I spent the whole day just lounging around and walking round the shops quite happily! This evening i managed to cook myself tea and failed miserably at the communal pool competition taking place in the hostel. Although a hopeless effort a great way to meet people staying here.
Thursday 11th December - Lovely morning today but cooler than yesterday. Spend the day wandering around the city again and into the aboriginal musem and Botanical Gardens. The history of the aboriginal people is really interesting and places a huge part to the history of Australia and Adelaide. The botanical gardens were huge but very beautiful and definitely worth a look. It's nice to escape the city surroundings into the greenery and experience the different plants and birds they have here. Thursday night was a quiet night, actually ended up going to the cinema with a few people from the hostel to see of all things, Australia! Really good film in fact and quite appropriate with the incorporation of the aboriginal culture.
