"Queenstown - Disneyland for adults"
So last Sunday we set off from Wanaka and after visiting Puzzle World quite a few of us attempted the goon box challenge. This consists of buying a 3 litre box of wine (4 bottles) and drinking it all throughout the day. I gave it a go and succeeded (if you can call it a success). On the way we also stopped at a bungee bridge so that those jumping to could book for the date they wanted and pay. Dan, Steve and Pete jumped off this bridge (43m) whilst we were there as it was only $100. As Dan headed up I challenged him to do it naked. He said no at first but when I started collecting money off everyone and we hit $100 (to cover his cost) he said yeah and said everything over would go to charity. Up he went and did it (video maybe to follow). Ended up raising $107 (£50-55) for charity too which was a nice bonus.
When we arrived in Queenstown check in was really disorganised on our behalf but eventually we got our room and headed up. Room 121 was a massive 8 bed dorm with a balcony. Dan took advantage of this balcony and showed passing people how to windmill (with his c*** if you aren't sure what that is).
There wasn't much of an aim for Sunday as we were all so smashed so we just carried on drinking before heading out to a bar called Altitude.
Monday we woke up with the aim of doing something but everything was closed because of the weather. Apparently it was the worse snow in New Zealand for 4 years. Along with about 20 other people from our bus we decided we may as well start drinking and before the hangover could kick in we were back on the goon. It really doesn't go down well first thing but after the first glass it gets easier. That evening we headed out to the bar at the Base hostel where there was a karaoke night. The highlights were Quentins version of Robbie Williams - Angels, The Big Green f*** Trucks version of Guns and Roses - Sweet Child of Mine, and the brilliant Richs version of Michael Jackson - Beat It (with some quality dancing).
On Tuesday we got a bit of a lie before those bungee jumping went to jump off the Nevis. Myself and Rob went and bought a crate of beer before heading back to the hostel for some pool. Pretty chilled afternoon before heading out again. My body started to tell me it hated me and I headed back just after midnight.
Wednesday morning I got up and started drinking. Actually, no I didn't. I had a day off drinking and went snowboarding for the first time in my life. I lasted about 10 minutes. Trying to stand like a snowboarder i was told "snowboarding is about looking cool. You look like a duck". I was only half way down the tiny baby slope and I fell over for the seventh time on that one run!! Straight away I took the board off and within 10 minutes I was getting some skis. It was the first time I had skied in 6 years and it was amazing. Fell back into it naturally and didn't fall over either.
That night was quite a few peoples last night, including Rob. Rob became an honorary member of our group as he was always staying in the same room as us. This meant that we had to go hard that night. Dan was convinced to go out as it was Ginger Wednesday and he got 2-4-1 on drinks all night.
What turned out to be quite a messy night actually worked in my favour the next morning. We had to be outside the hostel at 6.30am to get the bus to Milford Sound and even though it meant I had like 3 hours sleep, I also slept the whole 5 hour bus journey on the way and about half of the way back.
We set off early and didn't stop until we got to a town called Te Anau. We only stopped for about 20 minutes so popped to the supermarket and looked around a souvenir shop. Back on the bus and next stop was Milford Sound. A two hour boat tour around the most beautiful views I've ever seen travelling. The fiords, the seals, apparently there were penguins and dolphins too. AMAZING!!
After the boat tour we got the bus back to Queenstown (slept most of the way again) and headed out for our last night with the original Kiwi bus. Good night out and got about 3 hours sleep before getting the bus I'm on now to Christchurch where we catch a flight to Wellington. From now our shorter North Island adventure begins.
Hope everyone is well
