We have spent two days in Franz Josef and the have been really enjoyable. We left the Poo Pub on Thursday morning feeling quite rough. First stop of the day was at Pukekura for the Bushman Centre. Here we heard about the history of helicopter deer recovery and watched a DVD. Not amazing but quite interesting.
Eventually we arrived at Franz Josef and Steve, Dan, Pete, and Bav went off to skydive. A nice relaxing afternoon for me included an hour on the internet and a 3 hour nap. Once the others were back we had some food and headed to the pub for a killer pool tournament. This turned into drinks and bed at 4am. Not ideal before glacier trekking the next day.
I decided to do the half day trek to save a bit of money and quite a few others were doing it too. The others did the full day. It was a great day. A 5 hour trek up to the Franz Josef glacier and into ice caves and through ice cracks was incredible. Such great views and really amazing day out with Amy, Jill, Jill and Carla.
Back at the hostel there was a Hawaii themed party. Didn't put as much effort in as at the Poo Pub. Board-shorts and T-shirt was enough. Two good nights out in a town where only 300 people live. This morning we have headed to Wanaka for a night before heading to Queenstown.
Hope everyone is all good
